Four events and a special collaborative effort with several other cultural attractions are planned during the month of August at Buffalo Niagara Heritage Village, located at 3755 Tonawanda Creek Road in Amherst.

On the first day of the month, the Niagara Frontier Wireless Association will hold its annual Antique Radio Swap Meet. The free event will take place between the hours of 8 a.m. and noon. Radios dating from the 1920s through the 1960s will be offered for sale, as well as a wide selection of vintage electronics, tube amps, phonographs, speakers, advertising and assorted parts. For more information about the NFWA, visit www.nfwa.net.

Join BNHV in welcoming John Charles Bielik - artisan, instructor and historic trades preservationist - for a behind-the-scenes tour on historic paper marbling. This workshop, taking place from 10:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 1, is intended to be an introduction to the Turkish style of paper marbling. This variety of paper marbling is different from most marbling done in the world today. Historically appropriate materials and techniques of the paper marbler will be the foundation of this class. Instruction will include discussion and application of basic tools, materials and techniques.

It is suggested to wear clothing and shoes that can become stained with paint to this workshop. This event will include a look inside BNHV's state-of-the-art collections storage building. Reservations are required at least one week in advance. The price to participate is $35 and includes a materials fee ($30 for members).

The Scottish Festival kick-off ceilidh, featuring live music, Celtic-themed fare and raffles, will take place from 5 to 10 p.m. Friday, Aug. 14, at Stockman's Tavern, 9870 Transit Road, Swormville. There is no cost to attend. Visit facebook.com/scottishfestival or bnhv.org/scottish for more information.

The 31st annual Buffalo Niagara Scottish Festival, Highland Games and Gathering of the Clans will be held from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 15. The festival will feature Scottish fare and beer, bagpiping, clan row, dancing, Celtic vendors and the ever-popular Highland Games presented by the Buffalo Heavies. Some of this year's musical entertainment includes local favorite Penny Whiskey and, new this year, national performing act The American Rogues.

Tickets to the Scottish Festival are $10 for adults and free to children ages 12 and under. Visit facebook.com/scottishfestival or bnvh.org/scottish for more information.

Additionally, throughout the month of August, Buffalo Niagara Heritage Village and six other Erie and Niagara County cultural attractions are teaming up to present "History in Your Backyard," a collaborative celebration enabling guests to visit seven locations for one low price. Participants will receive a commemorative "passport" that will be stamped at each attraction.

In addition to BNHV, participating attractions include the Col. William Bond/Jesse Hawley House, Erie Canal Discovery Center, Herschell Carrousel Factory Museum, Museum of disABILITY History, Niagara Aerospace Museum and the Niagara County Historical Society. Tickets are $25 for adults, $10 for children and students, and free for those under the age of 2. A family package is available for $60. Tickets with passports can be purchased from Buffalo Niagara Heritage Village and can be used at all participating sites throughout the month of August.

From Memorial Day to Labor Day, the museum and grounds at Buffalo Niagara Heritage Village are open from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays, with additional hours from noon to 4:30 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays. The hours of operation from Labor Day to Memorial Day are 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Wednesdays and Fridays, and 9:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. Thursdays. For more information, visit www.bnhv.org.
