Individuals encouraged to apply to receive Congress's highest honor for young Americans

Congressman Brian Higgins is inviting young people across the district to participate in the Congressional Award program. Those who qualify have an opportunity to receive honors for dedicating time and effort to public service, personal development, physical fitness and exploration.

"Outstanding, young, well-rounded individuals who are active in our community will build a strong future for Western New York and our country," Higgins said. "I encourage young people to apply to earn recognition for their hard work."

Participants are eligible to obtain certificates and medals for reaching goals set out through the program. Honors are distributed based on hours of involvement in public service projects, personal development, physical fitness and exploration trips. Those who receive a bronze or silver medal will be presented the award by their representative in Congress. Earning a gold medal affords recipients the opportunity to receive the medal during a special ceremony in Washington D.C.

The Congressional Award is the highest honor from the United States Congress for young Americans.

Individuals between the ages of 14 and 23 are able to participate in this program. The Congressional Award has no minimum grade-point average requirements and accommodates young people with special needs who are willing to take the challenge.

Enrollment for the Congressional Award is rolling and has no specific start or finish dates. Interested individuals can find more information at http://higgins.house.gov/services/congressional-award and the Congressional Award website.
