Congressman Brian Higgins spoke on the House Floor Thursday to congratulate Seamus Degan, Rex Herzberg and Hakeem Salem, City Honors High School students who were chosen to present their research projects at the Congressional Science Fair, hosted in the U.S. Capitol Visitors Center.
The students are members of the City Honors Science Research Program, which pairs them with a research mentor at local research labs to conduct hands-on research and present their findings at regional and national science symposiums.
This marks the first year for the Congressional Science Fair, sponsored by the Dr. Nelson Ying Tri Region Science and Engineering Fair. Set up as a pilot, only students from New York's Allegany, Broome, Cattaraugus, Chautauqua, Chemung, Clinton, Delaware, Erie, Essex, Franklin, Genesee, Herkimer, Jefferson, Lewis, Niagara, Orleans, Otsego, Schuyler, Steuben, St. Lawrence, Sullivan, Tioga, Tompkins and Wyoming counties were eligible to participate.
