Dr. Shannon J. Hodges, an associate professor of counseling at Niagara University, has been named chair of the American Counseling Association's international committee. His three-year term commences July 1.

Along with serving as an associate professor, Hodges also coordinates NU's new graduate program in clinical mental health counseling, as well as its certificate of advanced study (licensure-designated) program in clinical and mental health counseling.

Hodges possesses more than 20 years teaching experience, including teaching overseas, and has authored numerous professional publications, including books, book chapters, journal articles and essays.

He currently writes a monthly column for Counseling Today, the ACA's monthly magazine. Hodges has also served on national committees, most notably the ACA publications committee and the ACA ethics review task force, along with serving on the editorial review boards of several journals, including the "Journal of Counseling & Development," "Journal of Counseling and Values," "Journal of Mental Health Counseling" and the "Journal of College Counseling."

Hodges is a longtime member of the ACA, the American Mental Health Counselors Association, and several ACA affiliate divisions. In mid-April, he was the keynote speaker at the New York Mental Health Counselors Association conference in Albany.

The American Counseling Association is a not-for-profit, professional and educational organization that is dedicated to the growth and enhancement of the counseling profession. Founded in 1952, ACA is the world's largest association, with 55,000 members, exclusively representing professional counselors in various practice settings. Its mission is to enhance the quality of life in society by promoting the development of professional counselors, advancing the counseling profession, and using the profession and practice of counseling to promote respect for human dignity and diversity.
