The Jack Beatty Cruise and Clambake has become one of the most popular summer events in Niagara County, with very good reason. This year marked the 14th year of the event and participants enjoyed the same incredible sail or motor up the lower Niagara River, great entertainment, and delicious food they have come to expect year after year. A record $38,000 was raised to benefit Niagara Hospice.

Once again, the Youngstown Yacht Club was the setting for the event that features local skippers donating their time and boats to take participants on a cruise up the Lower Niagara River while enjoying food, drinks, and live music on the water. The cruise was followed by a huge cookout featuring a clambake and more live music by Soul Committee.

The event also included a silent auction and basket raffle with items generously donated by local residents and businesses. Co-chairs Lori and Adam Burns, Melanie and Gary Tisdale, along with the Beatty family, are grateful for all of the support. "The Youngstown Yacht Club, all of the skippers, volunteers, and many generous local businesses truly make this event possible," said Adam Burns. "We are so thankful for their support year after year. The cruise also set a record of 36 sailboats and powerboats that hosted over 200 participants on the water. This event is a great time as well as a great fundraiser for Niagara Hospice."

Proceeds from the cruise and clambake provide revenue for Niagara Hospice to use in their work with individuals and families dealing with end-of-life illnesses. Since 1988, Niagara Hospice has served more than 20,000 Niagara County residents and their families. No individual is denied hospice care regardless of his or her ability to pay. Families who are uninsured or underinsured can take comfort in the fact that hospice services are available to them.

Next year's cruise and clambake will be held Friday, July 11, at the Youngstown Yacht Club. Visit www.niagarahospiceregatta.com for registration, information and updates. Or contact Maureen Rizzo at Niagara Hospice, at 716-280-0728, or [email protected].
