Still in need of a last-minute gift idea?

How about jumping the gun on that new year's resolution?

Personal trainer Maureen Kemeny of Lewiston announces she will offer group fitness training sessions open to area men and women starting next month.

The program will begin the second week of January 2012, with three eight-week sessions being offered. Sessions will take place on the second floor of the Lewiston Opera Hall, 732 Center St., in the village.

"Do you have goals to lose body fat, sculpt muscles, trim hips, thighs and abs, improve flexibility, or relax and rejuvenate? Now you can achieve your fitness goals in a friendly group environment," Kemeny says.

An AFAA certified personal trainer, Kemeny holds a master's in psychology and is a member of the Association of Applied Sport Psychology. An avid runner, just this past year she finished first in her age group at area events including the Buffalo Half Marathon, the Hospice Half Marathon and Wilson Triathlon. And she finished third in her age group at the Timberman Half Ironman.

She says her training in sports psychology enables her to be sensitive to psychological barriers and incorporate strategies for success for her clients.

"I am passionate about the benefits of regular exercise and love to help others make fitness a part of their lives," Kemeny says.

She speaks highly on the benefits of group training. "Group personal training offers the best of both worlds," Kemeny says. "You get individual attention from a trainer while working out with a group."

Available options include:

•Create your own class - invite your friends, mothers and daughters or co-workers (minimum of four) and,

•A program tailored to meet your personal goals, such as training for your first 5k or triathlon.

Eight-week sessions are offered, with a focus on the functional fitness of the individual participant - strength, core and flexibility. Available sessions include:

•Beginner/intermediate - Tuesdays, Jan. 10 to March 6, or Thursdays, Jan. 12 to March 8, 2012. Time options are 9 or 10 a.m.
