Monday morning, the Town of Niagara Lions Club, local elected officials, and town residents gathered at Veterans Memorial Community Park to remember and honor the veterans who served the country in all wars and conflicts.
Town of Niagara resident Nick Cofield began the ceremony with his trumpet rendition of the Star Spangled Banner. Cofield also concluded the ceremony with the playing of Taps.
Town of Niagara Supervisor Lee Wallace said, "Today, we honor our heroes and remember their achievements, their courage, and their dedication, and to say thank you to all the veterans, those who joined us today and those who could only be here in spirit."
Pastor Ron Maines of the Forestview Church of God led the crowd with opening and closing prayers.
The color guard from Boy Scout Troop 841 led a flag ceremony, which, first, brought the American flag to half staff, then, to close, full staff.
This year's guest speaker was U.S. Army Col. Arnie Soeder, who was commissioned in 1968 and spent five years on active duty, as well as numerous years in the National Guard.
The ceremony drew a plethora of veterans, and each one was presented a small American flag and lapel pin.
Following the ceremony, warm beverages and pastry were served inside the Calvin K. Richards Senior Center, capping off, once again, another successful Veterans Day gathering.
