Morinello: 'Gabby's Law' set to protect domestic violence victims

On Wednesday, Assemblyman Angelo Morinello, R-C-Niagara Falls, said, “I support my fellow colleagues, Assemblyman Ed Flood and Sen. Anthony Palumbo, for their proposed legislation, ‘Gabby’s Law,’ in honor of 22-year-old Gabby Petito, a victim of domestic violence, who was tragically killed by her boyfriend.

“Domestic violence is an ongoing issue, as one in four women and one and seven men will experience physical violence from their partners in their lifetime. The number of domestic violence victims increases every day, and it is critical that, as lawmakers, we take a stand on reducing the amount of incidents, and serve to protect those who have fallen victim to dangerous relationships. This piece of legislation would implement a ‘Teal Alert’ for missing adults, including victims of domestic violence who are believed to be in danger; and serve to send early alerts to the public, providing a greater likelihood of the missing adult being found safe and unharmed. 

“There are too many instances of domestic violence that go without any form of prevention or protective method. We need to do a better job and make a valiant effort in protecting lives that oftentimes are taken too soon.”
