FeedMore WNY is calling on Western New Yorkers to take steps in the fight against hunger, and help provide meals to food-insecure neighbors. The 15th annual “Walk Off Hunger,” presented by Evans Bank, will take place Saturday, Oct. 15, at River Fest Park, 249 Ohio St., Buffalo. Registration for the walk will begin at 10 a.m., with the walk kicking off at 11 a.m.

The walk will follow a flat, two-mile route that is dog-friendly. Walkers of all ages and abilities are welcome and encouraged to attend. Registration is $25 per person, or $20 per person for groups of four or more participants. Registration is free for participants ages 12 and younger. General and group registration includes “Walk Off Hunger”-themed shoelaces, registration bag and access to a virtual auction.

A press release stated, “All proceeds from the fundraiser go directly to helping FeedMore WNY nourish hungry children, families, older adults and veterans throughout Cattaraugus, Chautauqua, Erie and Niagara counties.”

FeedMore WNY President and CEO Tara A. Ellis said, “Sadly, the rate of food insecurity is 25% higher in Western New York than it is for all of New York state. ‘Walk Off Hunger’ is an opportunity for our community to come together and take meaningful steps to alleviate hunger throughout Western New York. In addition to registering for the walk, participants have the ability to launch personal fundraising pages to provide even more meals for our neighbors in need.”

The press release stated, “ ‘Walk Off Hunger’ has been a crucial fundraiser for FeedMore WNY, as it provides nutritious food throughout the community through programs like its food bank distribution network and home-delivered meals. ‘Walk Off Hunger’ proceeds also enables FeedMore WNY to tackle root causes of hunger through initiatives like its RISE workforce development program, hydroponic container farms and farm market. Since the beginning of the walk in 2008, the community has raised $837,000 to help FeedMore WNY support vulnerable neighbors.”
