Says full attention must be on providing emergency assistance to neighbors in need following Saturday’s mass shooting

On Tuesday, FeedMore WNY announced: “In respect for our community and in order to focus efforts on providing assistance to those affected by Saturday’s mass shooting at the Tops Friendly Market on Jefferson Avenue, FeedMore WNY has made the difficult decision to postpone ‘Sweet Expectations’ from the originally scheduled date of Wednesday, May 18, until Tuesday, June 14, 5:30-8:30 p.m. at Seneca One. FeedMore WNY is currently working to provide emergency assistance to the neighborhood around Jefferson Avenue, and our full attention must be on fulfilling our mission during this terrible time.”

Details about how the postponement impacts the virtual auction, ticketing, “Sweets To Go,” “Sweet Surprise Candy Bars” and “In Good Spirits Raffle” have been sent to all ticketholders.

The press release continued, “On behalf of FeedMore WNY and the ‘Sweet Expectations’ committee, our hearts go out to the City of Buffalo, and we are thankful for your continued support as we heal together.”

FeedMore WNY is continuing to partner with the Resource Council of WNY, Erie County, City of Buffalo, and the Johnnie B. Wiley Pavilion to distribute food donations to community members affected by the shooting.

Food distributions are currently scheduled for the following times and locations:

•Resource Council of WNY, 347 E. Ferry St.: 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. through Friday, May 27.

•Johnnie B. Wiley Pavilion, 1100 Jefferson Ave.: 1-9 p.m. Wednesday, May 18, through Friday, May 27.

For anyone who is unable to visit one of the distribution sites above, FeedMore WNY is also working with nearly a dozen partner agencies around the neighborhood to help distribute food. A full list of all of partner agencies is available in the “Find Food” section of www.feedmorewny.org or by calling 211.

Anyone who is looking to donate food and resources to assist with these distributions may drop them off at the FeedMore WNY warehouse located at 91 Holt St., from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. weekdays, and from 8 a.m. to noon Saturday. FeedMore WNY staff and volunteers will be working to accept, store, sort and redistribute these supplies back to the community. FeedMore WNY is currently requesting donations of nonperishable protein items, shelf-stable fruits and vegetables, beverages and snack items. Toilet paper and related personal care products, as well as diapers, are also in need.
