Town of Niagara trash collection updates

Thu, Apr 9th 2020 07:25 pm

The following statement was released on the Town of Niagara Facebook page on Wednesday, April 8.

To Our Residents,

Below is the notice the Town recently received from Republic regarding modifications to the garbage pick up in the Town due to the Coronavirus:

“Republic Services garbage and recycling crews are working diligently to continue to serve the Town’s residents with curbside collection services while experiencing an increase in volume of household trash. To protect garbage and recycling staff during this time, we ask that you do the following:

  • No garbage outside of bags and/or cans (anything else will be left at the curb).
  • No Recycling outside of the cart container.
  • Suspended bulk waste collection (during the COVID 19 Pandemic only).
  • Suspended yard waste collection (during the COVID 19 Pandemic only).

All collection dates and weeks will remain the same. Thank you for your understanding during this time and once this pandemic is over, we will resume as normal.

All garbage and recycle questions – call Republic Services 716-614-3386”

Town of Niagara Supervisor Lee S. Wallace said, “The above changes were instituted solely by Republic without any input or consent from the town. Although we understand the need to make adjustments of bulk pick-up temporarily because of the pandemic, it has come to our attention that Republic has also decided to make other changes not mentioned in their statement above. Rest assured that we will not stand idly by and allow Republic to manipulate and breach our binding contract and take advantage of our town and residents during this very difficult time.”
