Erie County Sheriff Timothy B. Howard on Tuesday announced the following COVID-19-related updates:
•A second deputy assigned to the holding center tested positive for the coronavirus.
•No inmates have been tested for COVID-19.
None of the inmates in persons under investigation (PUI) protocols meet the threshold for testing, as per current guidelines.
The seven inmates remain in PUI protocols.
•In the past several days, the division of correctional health has fit-tested over 630 of the agency’s employees for personal protection equipment.
•Howard is seeking additional face shields, N-95 masks, and gowns to maintain safe inventory levels for the division of correctional health, police services, and the jail management division.
The agency’s current inventory is expected to last for multiple weeks, but one incident could consume numerous items and PPEs.
The Sheriff’s Office ordered additional supplies, but many items remain on backorder.
•Howard reminds citizens:
Dispatchers are answering calls to the Sheriff’s Office, and he reminds people, depending on the incident, a deputy may place a phone call to the individual rather than respond in person. The deputy will complete a report, which will be available to the complainant.
