Empire State Development congratulates 14 New York-based productions winning 36 Emmy Awards

8 winning productions participated in state film production tax credit program

Productions generated more than $392 million in NY spending; created more than 19,300 new hires across state

Empire State Development congratulated 14 New York-based productions that received 36 awards at the 2019 71st Annual Primetime and Creative Emmy Awards. Of the winning productions, eight participated in the New York State Film Tax Credit Program, garnering 26 awards and generating more than $392 million in spending and 19,300 new hires statewide.

ESD Acting Commissioner and President and CEO-designate Eric Gertler said, “Film and TV productions are an economic engine for New York, investing millions of dollars locally and hiring tens of thousands of workers every year. Congratulations to this year’s New York-based Emmy winners on their accomplishments, and sincere thanks for choosing our state, where the talented people, iconic backdrops and energy are assets for the entertainment industry. We hope more productions will consider New York state as the obvious site for filming in the future.”

The film production and post-production tax credit programs attract award-winning television series, which both film and complete post-production in New York. A press release said TV production has increased exponentially across the state, spurring infrastructure investments that will continue to impact the state’s economy for years to come.

The state is currently home to 114 qualified production facilities (QPFs) and each major studio has expanded. Since 2011, 648 television productions have applied for the state film tax credit program, generating more than $21.4 billion in local spending and creating more than 1.23 million new hires.
