The New York State Department of Transportation announced work is continuing on the project to remove a portion of the Niagara Scenic Parkway in the City of Niagara Falls. As a result, new detours are scheduled to begin.

Beginning on at approximately 9 a.m., Monday, Aug. 12, work will begin at the intersection of Findlay Drive and Whirlpool Street. As a result, access to and from the Niagara Scenic Parkway from Findlay Drive will be directed to follow posted detours.

Southbound traffic on the Niagara Scenic Parkway will continue south to a temporary ramp to Whirlpool Street. Northbound traffic on Whirlpool Street and Route 104 seeking access to the Niagara Scenic Parkway will be detoured to the access ramp at Devils Hole State Park.

These detours are scheduled to remain in place for approximately two months.

•NYSDOT also announced lane closures are scheduled to begin next week on the project to rehabilitate a portion of the US Route 62 in Niagara Falls.

From 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. starting Monday, Aug. 12, motorists should expect to encounter daily lane closures on Route 62 (Niagara Falls Boulevard) in the vicinity of Packard Road.

Work is expected to last for approximately three months. It is weather-dependent, and could be delayed in the event of inclement weather.

Motorists are advised to obey the posted speed limit within the work zone. Recently, NYSDOT and the governor’s Traffic Safety Committee unveiled a new public service announcement and social media campaign focused on the importance of respecting flagging personnel. This year’s work zone safety campaign, “Flaggers have families too,” is designed to remind motorists that flagging personnel are not attempting to disrupt traffic – they are simply doing their jobs and want to get home safely at the end of each work day. The PSA can be viewed here and here.
