Niagara Power wins NYCBL championship

It’s been a long time coming, but Niagara Falls crowned a champion on Sunday. 

The Niagara Power, of the New York Collegiate Baseball League, defeated the Cortland Crush, 12-6, in the second game of a three-game series to take home the league title. 

During the regular season, the Power won a record 30 games (30-11-1), which clinched them the overall No. 1 seed in the playoffs. 

During the postseason, the team went 4-1. After the team won the semifinals series over the Mansfield Destroyers, 2-1, the Power then swept the Crush, 2-0. 

The team also had a few locals from the area who were part of the title. Those included James Filippelli and Will Hearn of Wheatfield, Dennis Gagliardo of Lewiston, and Vinny Chiarenza of Grand Island. 

The rest of the Power roster included, Max Alers, Joseph Barberio, Gunner Becker, Peyton Birch, Billy Blair, Joshua Bookbinder, Alex Friesen, Andrew Fron, Scott Grant, Simon Heck, Nathan Hinkley, Erik Johnson, Noah McDaniel, Matthew Vicencio, Cole Compton, Bryce Gargus, Jack Rubenstein, Noah Almond, Isaiah Corry, Kyle LaPlante, Frank Lucska, Dylan McNary, Braden Sanford, Josh Surowiec, Kolby Blanchard, Anthony D’Onofrio, Mikey Edelman, Adam Purdy, Eric Wentz, Brandon Joslin and Andrew Meadows. 

The coaching staff included manager Arthur “Ted” Stenberg, and assistants Ben Ascher, Charles Bernert, Brett Picaro and Colton Taylor.
