Accardo announces county legislature bid

Community activist to bring vision and experience to Fifth District

Citing his extensive business experience, financial background, and community advocacy, long-time civic contributor John Accardo has announced his intention to seek the Fifth District seat in the Niagara County Legislature in this year’s fall election. The legislative district includes the Town of Niagara, as well as the DeVeaux section of Niagara Falls, and portions of Hyde Park.

“We have a unique opportunity here to right the ship and bring stability to a vital part of the community,” said Accardo. “This district is home to me. My house is in DeVeaux, and my business clients are predominately in the Town of Niagara and Hyde Park.”

Accardo said he believes this race is about transparency and communication. He intends to speak with the residents of the district on their thoughts and concerns, while communicating his vision for the community. With an economic engine like the Fashion Outlets Mall, the airbase, and the world wonder of Niagara Falls all within such proximity, the Fifth District has a significant opportunity to prosper.

“We have waited in vain for too long for our elected officials seize the moment and bring true economic development to our area,” said Accardo. “Both the city and the town are dependent on tourism. It’s time we harness that ability and begin building economic bridges to bolster the entire area.”

The Niagara Falls Airbase will play a pivotal role in Accardo’s plan for development, including the continuation of funds in support of the efforts of the Niagara Military Affairs Council. Accardo also has family in the Air Force.

“The airbase is near and dear to my heart,” said Accardo. “Town officials recently rallied together to bring it on the tax rolls, and the plan is to bring a rapid response center to existence. This was a result of incredible planning and hard work. This rapid response center is an absolute must.”

Economic development is important to Accardo, but fiscally conservative principles are a critical factor in this election. Accardo, a former mayoral candidate in Niagara Falls, said he knows first-hand about the bleak economic state of Niagara Falls government.

“We cannot allow the same financial distrust that has plagued Niagara Falls city government to spread to the county; our taxpayers deserve better,” said Accardo. “When I ran for mayor, we exposed the financial mishaps, the irresponsible spending, and the lack of financial planning. Now, we’re watching it cripple our community.”

Ultimately, Accardo said he plans on bringing his fiscally conservative views to the doorsteps of every constituent in the Fifth District.

“This race comes down to meeting each constituent at their door to show them they can have a leader who will fight for them and their family,” said Accardo. “Whether it’s economic development, fiscal planning, or tackling the opioid crisis that devastates our neighborhoods, I will be right there fighting for them each and every day.”
