N-W female wrestlers stand out at state meet

This past weekend, the Niagara-Wheatfield Falcons female wrestlers competed in the first-ever New York State Public High School Athletic Association’s Section VI Girls Invitational and State Championships.

The girls were able to face off against competition from across New York state. In doing so, several N-W wrestlers placed well at the meet.

Kendra Cheers was champion of the 138-pound class, while her teammates Samantha Pietrzykowski (second, 160), Tristan Davis (second, 126), Kylah Holka (third, 120) and Rhylee Jung (second, 113) all finished well for the Falcons.

On the boys side of the mat, the Falcons will send five wrestlers to Albany Feb. 22 and 23 to compete in the state championships.

Heading to states for N-W is Jake DeWolf, Warren and Justin McDougald, Josh Thibeault and Collin Coughenour.
