NACC: 10th annual 'Freedom: Artists of Color Exhibition' at NACC

In celebration of Black History month, the Niagara Arts and Cultural Center, in partnership with the WNY Urban Arts Collective, will host the 10th annual “Freedom: Artists of Color Exhibition.” It will run Feb. 9 through March 4 in the Townsend Gallery, 1201 Pine Ave, Niagara Falls.

Curated by Ray Robertson, the show will feature works by local artists. It is inspired by the African American experience from the historical, contemporary and personal perspective.
The exhibition features art by a diversity of artists from Rochester, Buffalo and Niagara.

"The NACC provides a much-needed venue for showcasing the artistic talents of the Niagara Frontier, and serves as a beacon of opportunity for young artists of color,” said Robertson, who also serves as exhibit director. “Some of the people who enter this show may never have been included in an art gallery before. Here they mingle with seasoned professionals and, hopefully, everyone experiences something meaningful.”

The exhibition will also feature free admission to the NACC’s newly completed "Freedom Crossing” Underground Railroad exhibit in the Heritage Gallery, and a solo photography and sculpture exhibit – Robertson’s “Rock & Water.”

The event will begin at 5 p.m. Saturday, with hors d’oeuvres and an opportunity to meet the featured artists and enjoy the display. The exhibit will remain on display until March 4.

Galleries at the NACC are free and open to the public from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays, and from noon until 4 p.m. weekends. Guided tours are available by calling 716-282-7530.
