Four members of the National Guard recently talked to Wes Blidy’s diesel technology students at the Niagara Career and Technical Education Center.

Staff Sgt. Kaier, Spec. Cooper, Spec. Cawthard and Corp. Dycha also brought along a military tow truck to illustrate the career opportunities for a diesel technician in the military.

Other classes such as automotive technology, auto body, electricity/electronics and security and law enforcement also talked to the recruiters about the over 200 jobs associated within the National Guard.

The recruiters told the students, that thanks to their career and technical education background, they are more valuable because of the training they have already received. They described to the students the duties associated with their branch of the military and allowed the students to check out the vehicle they brought in.

Blidy said his students were very impressed with the demonstration.

“I believe a few will be joining the National Guard after graduation due to their interaction with the four soldiers that spent the day with them. It was a great opportunity for them to see what kind of vehicles they would be working on,” Blidy said.
