Thu, Jan 24th 2019 03:25 pm

Recently, the Chamber of Commerce of the Tonawandas named Confer Plastics Inc. its January Member of the Month.

Confer Plastics Inc. is a supplier of blow-molded products. With some of the largest blow molding machines in the world, the company is able to produce a wide range of products, some of which are pool ladders, kayaks, docks and mannequins.

Confer Plastics Inc. was founded in 1973 by Ray Confer and his son Douglas Confer. Both men invented items that are used every day.

Ray invented the living hinge, and Douglas invented the flexible fuel funnel.

Ray passed away in 1999 and the company continued to grow at a consistent and successful pace under the eye of Douglas. Confer Plastics is still a family-owned business. Brother and sister Bob and Connie Confer are the co-owners. Douglas is the CEO.

The company prides itself on being a family atmosphere. The atmosphere and respect shown towards coworkers can be seen by the number of employees who have been at Confer for 32 years.

Giving back to the community is something that Confer Plastics Inc. loves to do. Every year Confer hosts The Confer Classic golf tournament, which raises around $15,000 for local Boy Scouts.

Confer gives financially to the Boy Scouts of America, the United Way of Greater Niagara, Alfred University, SUNY College at Brockport, and the Erie Canal Fishing Derby.

Every year there are also more than 230 Western New York raffles that Confer Plastics donates to. Confer also opens their doors to the community by having plant tours for community organizations for kids and adults alike.
