Niemiec announces bid for NT Common Council

Zachary S. Niemiec, of North Tonawanda, announced his candidacy for 2nd Ward alderman of North Tonawanda via a video posted to social media. Niemiec currently is an elected member of the North Tonawanda Board of Education, where he serves on the city-school conference committee. He also serves the community by having a seat on the North Tonawanda High School Academy of Business and Finance Advisory Board.

In his vision, Niemiec wants all residents to have an equal footing. He sees a vision of NT that helps pull people up, not push them down. He believes that the community should provide residents the resources and tools to do better, give them better access to jobs, transportation, and even public services.

Niemiec said, “We can have both, bustling business centers, as well as quiet family oriented neighborhoods.”

Niemiec believes that for far too long, city infrastructure has not been maintained fast enough, and that further critical investments will need to be continued to improve and protect valuable services such as water treatment and filtration, road repair, etc.

Niemiec will seek to find ways to close budget gaps and implement the best practices in an effort to protect residents from increased costs of living. It is his stance that tax levy increases are not the only solution to a sound fiscal footing for the city.

He also is aiming to end partisan bickering and infighting. He believes that regardless of political affiliation, he can work with all viewpoints to find a common ground.

“Progress should not be halted because of partisan fights, it should be an opportunity for us to learn and grow together so that the city can continue to grow,” he said.

As a supporter of lifelong learning, Niemiec believes that we can all stand to learn from change. Residents of North Tonawanda want to see growth and reasonable change, not just tax increases with nothing to show for them.

Niemiec attended Johnson & Wales University for both, his undergraduate and graduate education; he finished his bachelors degree focused on marketing in just two and a half years, followed by the completion of his master of business administration degree in just 11 months and now works as the director of administrative services for a company in the private sector.
