Niagara-Wheatfield CSD offers free pre-K program

Thu, Dec 27th 2018 01:50 pm

The Niagara-Wheatfield Central School District recently received word it was tentatively awarded a grant from the New York State Education Department for pre-kindergarten. The district will begin the program starting Jan. 22, 2019.

Superintendent Daniel Ljiljanich said this is great news for the district.

“This grant is so important for our children,” he said. “Studies show students who participate in pre-kindergarten programs are better prepared for kindergarten and life-long learning. We are very excited that a larger number of our students will have this opportunity.”

The program is free of charge and will be open to 141 Niagara-Wheatfield children whose dates of birth fall between Dec. 2, 2013, and Dec. 1, 2014.

The site of the program will be at Bunny Bunch Daycare locations and will run from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. weekdays. Parents will be responsible for transportation to and from the site.

Applications are available on the school district’s website at www.nwcsd.org and in the main offices of all Niagara-Wheatfield School buildings.  The deadline for the applications is 3 p.m. Friday, Jan. 4, and must be turned into the Niagara-Wheatfield District Office, located at 5700 West St., in Sanborn.  If applications exceed maximum enrollment, a public lottery will be conducted at 4 p.m.

For more information, regarding the application process, contact Jessica O’Hern, director of special programs, at 716-215-3012.
