Obituary: Walter C. Conrad Sr.

Walter C. Conrad Sr. 89, of the Town of Lewiston, departed this life in the presence of his loving family on Sunday, Nov. 18, 2018, at his residence, while under the care of Niagara Hospice. Born on July 24, 1929 in Rosebud, Pennsylvania, he was the son of the late Charles and Ruth (Eckley) Conrad.  
Conrad was raised and attended schools in Pennsylvania. Walter proudly served in the United States Army during the Korean War, from Aug. 8, 1951, until his honorable discharge on Aug. 7, 1953.  On Jan. 30, 1954, he married the former Ardith L. Lamar in Pennsylvania.  Following their marriage, they came to Niagara Falls, where he was employed as a journeyman pipefitter, welder and electrician working for Union Carbide, until their closing. Conrad was an avid Pittsburgh Steelers fan and enjoyed remodeling and gardening.  Above all, Walter loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
In addition to his beloved wife, Conrad is survived by children, Walter C. (Donna) Conrad Jr., Catherine (James) Velzy and William (Lynne) Conrad; many loving grandchildren and great-grandchildren and several nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to his parents, Walter was predeceased by siblings, John Conrad, Dorothy Richardson and Naomi Lamar.
Visitation will be on Friday, Nov. 23 from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. in the Chapel of Otto Redanz Funeral Home, 2215 Military Road, Niagara Falls, where a funeral service will be held on Saturday, Nov. 24 at 10 a.m. Prayers of committal and interment will follow in Niagara Falls Memorial Park Cemetery, concluding with military honors. If desired, memorial offerings may be made to Niagara Hospice. Arrangements are under the direction of Michael R.
