Kwandrans to head up NCCC Workforce Development

Thu, Oct 25th 2018 12:40 pm
Niagara County Community College has hired Karen Kwandrans of Sanborn as assistant vice president of academic affairs for workforce development.
Prior to her employment with NCCC, Kwandrans served as a coordinator/project director for a Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Youth Grant for Orleans-Niagara BOCES and director of the Nursing Workforce Diversity Program at D'Youville College.  She also has experience as an adjunct instructor in career and technical education at Buffalo State College.  Kwandrans received a bachelors of science in nursing from SUNY at Buffalo and a masters of science in education from SUNY College at Buffalo.  She is currently pursuing a doctoral degree from St. John Fisher College.
In her new position, Kwandrans will be working with business, industry, and schools, as well as local employment and economic agencies to align workforce needs with educational programming at NCCC.
Kwandrans said, "My hope is that NCCC becomes the anchor for workforce initiatives in Niagara County.  I plan to initiate new ideas and work closely with the academic side to develop a 'credential to credit' pathway model for those individuals who start on the non-credit side and want to continue their education at NCCC.  In order to do this, plans include maximizing grant funding to bring additional programs and partners to the Workforce Development Department to meet needs of employers for skilled workers in our area."
