Over the past week, the Niagara-Wheatfield golf team complete a perfect 15-0 regular season, which extends its winning streak to 83 matches.
Going into the team's first of two matches of the season against Kenmore East last Wednesday, the team knew its (at the time) 78-match winning streak was going to be at stake on the undefeated Bulldogs' home course.
After falling behind early as golfers finished their rounds at Brighton Golf Course, the team survived and won, 247-249. Anthony Delisanti led all golfers by shooting a 35, Nolan Codd was runner-up for N-W with a 40. The biggest score of the day came from Chris Cacciatore in the No. 7-8 matchup.
With the Falcons behind with one last foursome to play, Cacciatore came in with a 41, which successfully negated a 47 and 58 on the N-W scorecard and also defeated his opposition.
After extending the streak to 80 with a win over Kenmore West last Thursday, the Falcons returned home Friday to face the Bulldogs again. The match wasn't as close as Wednesday's, but the Falcons were still given a fight on their home course at Tan Tara Golf Club.
N-W walked away with a 251-264 victory. Delisanti and his little brother RJ shot 37 and 44, respectively, helping guide the Falcons to its 81st straight victory.
The Falcons finished its perfect 15-0 season versus Lockport and Grand Island in a seven-hole dual match Tuesday. In the shortened match, N-W defeated Grand Island, 183-227, and then Lockport, 183-244. With par set at 28 for seven holes, Anthony Delisanti finished with a 3-under 25.
The team will turn its focus to the Niagara Frontier League Championship Tournament at Willowbrook Golf Course. The Falcons will look to hoist its fifth consecutive Niagara Frontier League title and also add eight matches to its possible winning streak by posting the lowest team score amongst nine NFL teams.
With an additional eight wins at the NFL tournament, the winning streak could jump to 91.
Last year, as a freshman, Anthony Delisanti medaled at the tournament by shooting a 3-under 69.
The tournament starts at 8 a.m. Tuesday at Willowbrook Golf Course.
