The 19th annual Jack Beatty Memorial Cruise and Clambake, held Friday, July 13, continued its tradition of lively entertainment, delicious food and leisurely sailing, all to benefit Niagara Hospice. The event raised a large amount to support the purchase of a new ambulette for Niagara Hospice. A formal check presentation will be in October at Niagara Hospice.
The ambulette will replace the current one used at Niagara Hospice to transport patients to and from the hospital as well as Niagara Hospice House. The ability to provide safe, efficient transportation for patients will be greatly enhanced with the purchase of a brand-new vehicle. All proceeds from the 2018 Cruise and Clambake will make this possible.
The Youngstown Yacht Club hosted the event. Local skippers and crews from various marinas on Lake Ontario donated their time and boats to take participants out on the Lower Niagara River. A record number of 39 powerboats and sailboats with 264 cruisers enjoyed food, drink and live entertainment. The Junk Yard Dogs Band played on the water while the participants sailed. The three-hour cruise was followed by a cookout featuring a clambake, live music by Soul Committee, basket auctions and cash raffles.
Co-chairs Lori and Adam Burns, along with Paul Beatty Sr. and family, said they are grateful for all of the support and thanked the people, businesses and organizations that continue to make the event a success each year. In addition, they thanked the Youngstown Yacht Club and all the members and non-members who donate their boats and time.
Since 1988, Niagara Hospice has served more than 25,000 Niagara County residents and their families. No individual is denied hospice care regardless of ability to pay.
