Former Town of Lewiston Councilman Langlois passes

Darwin James (Jim) Langlois of Lewiston died peacefully on Saturday, April 21, 2018, at the age of 90.
He was a beloved husband and father, and is survived by his wife, Margaret; his children: Barbara Langlois, Ellen Quinn, Cecelia Byrne, James (Reze) Langlois and Mary (Joe) Genovese; his grandchildren: William Tate Van Ormer, Cateline Quinn, Kelly Byrne, Rosalie and Annabel Newman, James, Melissa, Joey and Allison Genovese; and a brother, Alan Langlois. He was preceded in death by his mother and father, Alice Beckman and Middy Langlois; a brother, Bernard Langlois; and three sisters: Arloa Gaultney, Mary Jean Dowd and Doloris Langlois.
Jim was born in Muskegon, Michigan, on Feb. 23, 1928. He graduated from Muskegon Community College with an associate degree in science and graduated from the University of Detroit with a bachelor's degree in chemical engineering. He was president of his graduating class, awarded membership into Tau Beta Pi, Blue Key and Phi Theta Kappa National Honor Society.
Jim was a WWII veteran, serving in the U.S. Army with the occupation forces in Tokyo, Japan. He was honorably discharged with a rank of T4 at the end of the war, and awarded ribbons for WWII victory, Japanese occupation and good conduct.
On Nov. 17, 1951, Jim married Margaret Christman. He joined the DuPont Company in 1952 and held various technical and management roles in Niagara Falls and throughout the world for 39 years.
He was a resident of Lewiston for 53 years and served his community as past president of the Lewiston Kiwanis Club, past president of St Peter's Holy Name Society, past president of St. Peter's St. Vincent DePaul Society, and served on the boards of Community Missions, American Cancer Society and Junior Achievement.
Jim was elected to two terms and served for eight years as a Lewiston town councilman.
He will be greatly missed by both his family and his community.
Friends may call at Hardison Funeral Home, North Fourth and Ridge streets, Lewiston, from 4-8 p.m. Wednesday, April 25. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Thursday, April 26, at St. Peter R.C. Church, 600 Center St., Lewiston, with the Rev. Monsignor David G. LiPuma officiating.
All are welcome to attend (please assemble at church), and celebrate Jim's life.
