Town of Niagara Lions & Lioness Clubs Veterans Day ceremony

The Town of Niagara Lions and Lioness Clubs will honor the nation's veterans Saturday, Nov. 11, with a special ceremony at the new memorial in Veterans Memorial Community Park, 7000 Lockport Road in the Town of Niagara. The ceremony was previously held at Veterans Park at the intersection of Lawson and Bellreng drives, but has been moved to the new location on Lockport Road.
The ceremony will begin at 11 a.m. with opening remarks and a welcome from Town of Niagara Supervisor Lee Wallace. The Color Guard from Boy Scout Troop 841 will then conduct a flag ceremony. Town resident Nick Cofield will perform "The Star-Spangled Banner" and taps with his trumpet. There will also be wreath presentations by the Lions, Lioness and Girl Scout Troop 70165. The Rev. Ron Maines of the Forestview Church of God will offer opening and closing prayers.
The guest speaker is Col. Erik L. Aufderheide, vice commander, 914th Air Refueling Wing, as well as the acting 914 ARW Operations Group commander, Niagara Falls Air Reserve Station.
All veterans attending the ceremony will be presented an American flag lapel pin and flag from the Girl Scouts, compliments of Old Glory Flag. The Girl Scouts will also sing "God Bless America."
The Lions will collect American flags that are in disrepair for proper disposal. Following the ceremony, the Lioness will serve warm beverage and pastry at the Calvin K. Richards Senior Center located in the park.
