Principal praised for collaborative leadership style

The Lewiston-Porter Board of Education has announced the appointment of Paul J. Casseri as the next Lewiston-Porter superintendent of schools, effective July 1.

Casseri has served for the past 10 years as high school principal for the Lewiston-Porter Central School District. He will be officially appointed at the Lew-Port BOE session Tuesday, April 28.

In making the announcement, Board President Jodee Riordan said Casseri brings a wealth of administrative experience to the position. "He has first-hand knowledge and experience with the school district's operations, having worked as part of the Lew-Port administrative team for the last 10 years," she said.

Casseri began his career as a teacher in the Buffalo Public Schools in 1987 and has worked as an assistant principal for Buffalo and for the Sweet Home and Greece central school districts. He also served as the assistant superintendent for human resources at Frontier Central Schools and principal of South Park High School in Buffalo. He is a former softball and soccer coach and previously served as an adjunct professor at Canisius College in Buffalo.

Under Casseri's leadership, Lewiston-Porter High School has improved student performance by matching staff development activities with the needs of the students, based on assessments and key performance indicators. He has steered the Lew-Port district in the development of its international programs and cultural exchanges while supporting innovative academic programs during these most difficult financial times, Riordan said.

Casseri earned his bachelor's and master's degrees from SUNY Buffalo and is pursuing his doctorate degree from the University of Toronto. He holds a permanent certification as a New York state school district administrator.

Dr. Clark J. Godshall, district superintendent for Orleans-Niagara BOCES, facilitated the search process on behalf of the Lewiston-Porter Board of Education. An individual was sought to replace current Superintendent of Schools Christopher Roser, who will retire from the position June 30.

Over past months, the Lew-Port district considered community input and conducted a statewide search for applicants as part of the process. Three finalists were ultimately selected from 10 applicants, including Casseri. Follow-up interviews were conducted with the Lew-Port BOE, and district meet-and-greet sessions were held within the Lew-Port community and with local residents.

Commenting on the board's selection of Casseri, Riordan said, "Mr. Casseri has demonstrated a level of excellence during his decade at Lewiston-Porter and will continue to be a wonderful asset to our district as superintendent. He is fully invested in our school district and is extremely cognizant of the challenges the district faces.

"His record for high expectations for himself and the entire school community is well known. Mr. Casseri's collaborative leadership style and dynamic approach to education will benefit all of our students, school personnel, parents, and elevate the Lewiston-Porter community as a whole."

Responding to the board's announcement, Casseri stated, "It is truly an honor to have been selected as the next superintendent of the Lewiston-Porter Central Schools. The Lewiston-Porter Central Schools have a rich tradition of academic excellence and community support. As superintendent, I will seek to build on that tradition of excellence, working collaboratively with the Board of Education, administrators, teachers and staff, and, most importantly, the families of our district to ensure that all students achieve at their highest potential. As our motto states, we will always be 'Aiming Higher.' "

Casseri's annual salary is $155,000. The contract will be for a five-year term.
