Classical program features acclaimed violinist Michael Ludwig

Celebrating its ninth summer at Artpark, the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra presents an afternoon performance of classical favorites from Berlioz, Mozart, Mendelssohn and Tchaikovsky as part of Artpark's new "Sundays in July" matinee theater series.

The July 15 performance is sponsored by Jaeckle Fleischmann & Mugel ,LLP and begins at 3 p.m. in Artpark's Mainstage Theater.

Artpark's board of directors will dedicate the July 15 performance to the late Catherine S.C. Boericke, first woman elected president of Artpark & Company and loyal supporter of the arts.

Matthew Kraemer will conduct the classical program, which features acclaimed soloist Michael Ludwig on violin.

Michael Ludwig, a highly sought-after soloist, has performed with the Chicago Symphony, Philadelphia Orchestra, Boston Pops, Shanghai Philharmonic, London Symphony and, of course, the Buffalo Philharmonic. Ludwig performs on a rare violin made in the late 1700s by the Cremonese master Lorenzo Storioni and a Dominique Peccatte bow. His violin has been lauded in a Fanfare review by Jerry Dubins as "one of the most gorgeous instruments I've ever heard."

Tickets for Sunday's performance are still available (prime seating $37; sections A and B $30.50) and can be purchased in person at the Artpark Box Office (450 S. Fourth St., Lewiston), by phone at 716-754-4375 or 1-888-223-6000, or online at www.artpark.net or www.tickets.com.

Don't miss the rest of the "Sundays in July" series at Artpark. Take a walk down memory lane with "Let's Hang On! - America's #1 Frankie Valli Tribute" on July 22 and watch the Toronto All Star Big Band revive the spirit, style and sounds of the "swinging '30s and '40s" on July 29. Tickets are still available through the Artpark Box Office or www.artpark.net.
