The Lewiston-Porter Board of Education has extended the contract of Superintendent Christopher Roser to Sept. 30, 2015.

In a public hearing earlier this month, residents were updated on the district's code of conduct, student use of computers in information resources and Internet safety/Internet content policies by attorneys William Berard and Ryan Smith. Lew-Port has been updating its policies and procedures over the past two years.

The board also recognized a number of students, faculty and board members, including primary education student Sarina Sing as the recipient of the New York state Agriculture/New York state Elks award; Channel 7 Teacher of the Week Summer Chapman; Eagle Scout Kevin Foley; and outgoing board members April Fideli and Wendy Swearingen.

Also recognized for her work on the board serving as president was Jodee Riordan.

In other business, the board:

•Passed the capital project 2012 resolution that was approved by voters in May. The resolution authorizes the district to undertake a capital improvement project at the high school and middle school at a maximum estimated cost of $2.7 million.

•Accepted the resignation of Athletic Director/Middle School Dean of Students Scott Townsend, at a date to be determined.

•Laid off eight teacher aides and placed them on a preferred eligibility list for recall.

•Appointed the 2012-13 district wide department chairpersons.

The board approved a change in the date for the district's board of education reorganizational meeting. The meeting will be held Tuesday, July 10, at 6:30 p.m. in the Community Resource Center. The original date was July 3.
