BPO free concerts open this week

The Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra's "First Niagara Summer in the Parks" series opens Tuesday, June 26, at Niagara Falls State Park in Niagara Falls.

BPO Friends scholarship winner Audrey Yu, an oboist and a 2012 graduate of Williamsville East High School, will perform the first movement from Ralph Vaughan Williams' Concerto in A minor for Oboe and String Orchestra.

Presented with funding from First Niagara Bank, the BPO also will perform free concerts at other venues in the area over coming days and weeks.

Upcoming concerts include Knox Farm State Park, East Aurora on Wednesday, June 27; the Buffalo and Erie County Botanical Gardens, 2655 S. Park Ave., Buffalo, on Thursday, June 28; the Olmsted Parks Conservancy's War of 1812 Commemoration on Friday, July 6, in Delaware Park; and the Niagara Falls Hard Rock Café "Hard Rock Rocks" concert series on Saturday, July 14.
