The Niagara County Central Rotary Club will host the 29th annual Roger W. Andrews Senior Citizen Breakfast at 8:30 a.m., Saturday, May 12, in the Niagara Wheatfield High School cafeteria.

The breakfast is for all citizens, age 50 and over, who reside in the Niagara-Wheatfield area. There is no charge for the breakfast.

Andrews and Niagara County Legislator Bill Ross are the 2012 co-chairmen. They believe this year's event will be another great success and welcome all of the senior citizens of the Niagara-Wheatfield area to attend. Last year, more than 300 seniors were treated to breakfast, entertainment and prizes.

Sponsors for the breakfast are being sought. Donated goods will be picked up May 1. Call Andrews at 731-5238 or Ross at 731-5949.

The annual senior breakfast began in 1984 as part of the 25th anniversary of the opening of the Niagara-Wheatfield High School. Fred Barone, a longtime high school administrator, believed the senior citizens of the Niagara-Wheatfield school community should be honored for all the contributions they had made to make N-W a great community to live in and for their excellent support of the district school system.

The first Senior Citizen Breakfast was so successful that Barone and his committee decided it would be great to have an annual breakfast honoring the N-W senior citizens.

The Senior Citizen Breakfast has been an outstanding success, according to organizers, because it provides the opportunity for good friends to sit down, socialize, enjoy a good breakfast and listen to nostalgic music from a different era.

The Rotary Club of Niagara County Central has become the sponsor of this community event.
