Mir Ali, a critically-acclaimed musician who has performed all over the world, will present an evening of Spanish classical and flamenco guitar music on April 25 at Niagara University.

Sponsored by the university's department of modern and classical languages, the event takes place at 7 p.m. in NU's Castellani Art Museum. Ali will offer brief lecture beforehand, at 6:15 p.m., and refreshments will be provided following the performance.

Tickets for the general public are $5. Niagara University faculty, staff and students can attend the event at no charge with I.D.

Since winning his first competition at the age of 13, the Pakistani-born Ali has been described by Acoustic Guitar Magazine as "an exceptional nylon string guitarist," as "mesmerizing and hypnotic" by National Public Radio, and as "innovative and eclectic" by Soundboard magazine.

Ali has written music for movies, theater, radio, television commercials and, most recently, for the documentary "Roots and Branches," for which he won the Award of Excellence from the prestigious Film Advisory Board in Hollywood. His recent tours include performances and master classes in India, Bangladesh, Romania, Spain, Italy and Canada.

Ali is also active as an adjudicator and clinician at prestigious guitar competitions and festivals in the U.S. and abroad. In addition, he serves as director of the Amherst School of Guitar, president of the Buffalo Guitar Society and has been the artistic director of the Rantucci International Guitar Festival and Competition for the past 15 years.
