The call went out across the Fairfield University campus late Sunday afternoon to declare a "snow day," or at least "Stag Day," or whatever it takes, so the campus community could venture to Massachusetts on Monday, March 5, and watch their men's and women's basketball teams, both, vie for their championships in the 2012 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference, and an NCAA tournament berth.
On Saturday morning, the Fairfield women cinched their spot in the finals with a 63-48 win over Siena. The women will play at noon against Marist College in the MassMutual Center in Springfield, Mass. The game will be aired on ESPNU.
The men earned their chance for the MAAC championship on Sunday with an 85-75 victory over Iona. The Stags take on Loyola University in the second game at 7 p.m. The contest will be televised on ESPN2.
