Tuesday, at a House Armed Services Committee hearing, Congresswoman Kathy Hochul pressed both Secretary of the Air Force Michael Donley and Air Force Chief-of-Staff Norton Schwartz on decisions regarding cuts to the Department of Defense budget.

"With its close proximity to the border, the Niagara Falls Air Reserve Station plays a critical role in protecting not only the Western New York community, but our nation's security," said Hochul, a member of the House Armed Services Committee. "Before there is any change in services at this installation, the Air Force has to look at both the national security implications, as well as the economic factors involved in cutting services at the only military installation in Western New York."

NFARS is compromised of the 914th and 107th Airlift wings, and is one of only two associate wings between the Air Reserve and Air National Guard in the U.S., as well as the only military installation in Western New York. In 2011, NFARS conducted more than 1,500 missions in both Iraq and Afghanistan.
