Do taxes with AARP

The AARP Foundation's Tax-Aide Program will offer free tax return preparation, both federal and state, at four different sites in Wheatfield and North Tonawanda.

The program is designed to help low to middle income persons and the elderly of the community.

The program is available by appointment at:

•Wheatfield Community Center on Church Road, Wheatfield, from 9 a.m. to noon on Feb. 29 and March 7. Call 694-8504.

•North Tonawanda Senior Center on Goundry Street, North Tonawanda, 9 a.m. to noon Fridays from Feb. 3 to April 13. Call 695-8582.

Walk-ins are accepted on a first-come, first-served basis at:

•North Tonawanda Public Library, 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Tuesdays from Feb. 14 through April 10. (The first week at the library will be on Wednesday, Feb. 8, due to special activities taking place at the library.)

•Knights of Columbus Madonna Council on Erie Avenue, North Tonawanda, from 9 a.m. to noon Feb. 22 and March 21.

Bring the following: a copy of last year's tax returns, W-2 forms from each employer, unemployment compensation statements, SSA-1099 form if you were paid Social Security benefits, all 1099 forms (1099-INT, 1099-DIV, 1099-B, etc.) showing interest and/or dividends and documentation showing original purchase price of sold assets, 1099-misc. showing any miscellaneous income, 1099-R form if you received pension or annuity income, all forms indicating federal tax paid, dependent care provider information (name, employer ID, Social Security number, all receipts or cancelled checks if itemizing deductions, Social Security cards or other official documentation for yourself and all dependents.

All the volunteer counselors in the AARP Tax-Aide Program are IRS-certified.
