Sea scout troop starts in Lewiston

Learn how to sail on the Black Pearl this summer

Applications are being accepted for 14-20-year-olds to have the opportunity to learn how to sail - for free. Participants will learn how to sail on a real ship and will go to various ports of call.

The Historical Association of Lewiston, in cooperation with the Black Pearl, makes this opportunity possible.

A new Sea Scout troop has been established (in Sea Scouts, the troops are actually referred to as "Ships"), and this new one will be called "Ship 1812." Applications are being taken now. The co-ed program is an official part of the Boy Scouts, but girls are more than welcomed.

There is limited room and the program can only accept 15 new scouts, so those students who show the interest and commitment to participate regularly will go to the top of the list for consideration.

Thousands of Sea Scouters have gone on to careers on the high seas, including military service in the Navy and Coast Guard.
