The Niagara County Genealogical Society will host a free program titled "Getting Started: You can be a Genealogist" from 2 until 4 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 28, at the Lockport Public Library Community Room, 23 East Ave.

Are you interested in learning more about how to research your family tree? Society member Jeanette Sheliga will teach good practices and techniques to organize and start a family tree, what resources are out there to help further research and where to find those resources.

Sheliga is a member of the Niagara County Genealogical Society and the organizer of the North Tonawanda Library Genealogy Club. She has been researching her family tree for more than 10 years, is a frequent genealogy volunteer, and maintains a blog of her personal genealogical findings to share with her family.

The public is welcome to attend.
