Assemblyman John Ceretto, R-I-Lewiston, today applauded the State Senate's confirmation of Gil Quinones, who will now serve as the president and CEO of the New York Power Authority. Quinones has been the acting president of NYPA since July 2011.

"Gil Quinones has the managerial experience that is needed to revamp NYPA and turn the authority around," Ceretto said. "I look forward to working with Mr. Quinones to advance Niagara County's energy needs during this legislative session and I am hopeful that he will be more responsive to the people of Western New York than past NYPA chiefs."

Ceretto's priorities include retooling New York state's aging power grid, utilizing the region's energy production to lower local power costs and promote economic development, and appointing a Niagara County resident to the NYPA board of trustees.

"By working in a bipartisan manner, lawmakers have an opportunity to move beyond the partisan gridlock of the past and deliver real results for our region's residents and businesses," Ceretto said. "I applaud president Quinones for reaching out to me for my input on how NYPA can better serve Niagara County and look forward to working with him closely to ensure our region's energy needs are met."
