Assemblyman John Ceretto, R-I-Lewiston, today joined his legislative colleagues from Western New York in a meeting with Gov. Andrew Cuomo to discuss the chief executive's proposal to invest $1 billion in the Buffalo-Niagara region in order to create jobs and foster economic growth.

"Today I had the opportunity to meet with Governor Cuomo to discuss our vision for new investment in Western New York," Ceretto said. "I applaud the governor for his commitment to the Buffalo-Niagara region, and I look forward to working with the region's economic development council and area lawmakers to make certain that this funding is spent wisely on projects that will create the type of private-sector growth we need."

During the meeting, Cuomo spoke about how the Buffalo-Niagara region needs to begin to believe in itself once again, adding that he hopes the new funding will be used to attract a game-changing company to the area.

"This $1 billion investment is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for a part of our state long ignored by Albany. It will give us the ability to tap into our talented work force and natural resources to lay the foundation for a new and innovative private-sector economy," Ceretto said. "We must not waste this golden opportunity; I urge my colleagues to work together to put the economic well-being of our area ahead of pet projects and partisan bickering."
