'Tree of Warmth'

The holidays should be a special time for everyone, especially children. With cold weather quickly approaching, many of us take for granted that we will have a warm pair of mittens to wear or a scarf to protect our face in the bitter cold. However, not everyone is as fortunate as we are. There are children who don't have mittens or hats to keep them warm.

YMCA Camp Kenan and the Lockport Family YMCA Teen Leaders Club hope to help those less fortunate this Thanksgiving season by hosting a "Tree of Warmth." The tree will be located in the adult lobby of the Lockport Family YMCA through Nov. 30.

The "Tree of Warmth" starts off bare, but soon is filled and decorated with mittens, gloves, scarves, knit hats and earmuffs. We ask that all items be suited to fit children ages 6-16 years of age, and in new condition. Handmade knit and crochet mittens, gloves, scarves and hats are also welcome.

All items can be dropped off at the Lockport Family YMCA 19 East Ave., Lockport, or YMCA Camp Kenan, 8571 Lower Lake Road, Barker. Once the tree is filled, items will be donated to local community missions and area charities for the most impact.
