2012 budget approved

The Grand Island Town Board approved a 2012 budget last Thursday with roughly 2 percent increases in tax rates across budget lines.

The general fund appropriations total $6,764,540, with the amount raised by taxation at $2,162,590.The estimated tax rate,  $3.12 per $1,000 of assessed valuation, is an increase of 2.2 percent from the 2011 rate of $3.053.

Other budget lines:

Fire protection district

Appropriations: $1,145,536.

Estimated tax rate: $1.562 per $1,000, up 4 cents, or 2.7 percent.

Highway fund

Appropriation: $3,149,878.

Raised by taxes: $2,445,726.

Estimated tax rate:  $3.528 per $1,000 of assessed valuation, an increase of 7 cents, or 2.2 percent.

Consolidated sewer district

Sewer fund appropriations: $3,297,578.

Raised by taxation: $902,217.

Estimated tax rate per $1,000 of land value only: $9.571, a decrease of 91 cents, or a 8.8 percent decrease.

Consolidated water district

Appropriations: $2,817,418.

Raised by taxation: $709,880.

Estimated tax rate per $1,000 of land value: $5.784, the same as in 2011.

Lighting district

Appropriations: $205,975.

Amount to be raised by taxation: $190,262.

The tax rate varies by district.

Refuse and garbage district

Appropriations: $1,303,794.Amount to be raised by taxation: $1,303,143.

Flat tax rate per single family dwelling: $183, an increase of $3, or 1.7 percent.
