Professor Herbert Richardson, an author with Edwin Mellen Press, is no longer selling his corner property on Center and North Fourth streets in Lewiston. Instead, he's looking to completely change it.

The professor's plan is to cover his property -- two white buildings and a large courtyard -- and convert it into one indoor unit (see a photo on our website). The new space would stretch to the Fourth and Center sidewalks, replacing the black fence that sits there now, and offering a setback more in keeping with neighboring buildings.

Richardson's architect, David Giusiana of Giusiana Architects & Engineer, was expected to present a concept to the Village Planning Board Monday night. However, Richardson elected to wait, and the proposal was tabled.

Richardson has had mixed results with his 8,500-square-foot mall, circa 2005-06, which was originally intended to house myriad artisans. The rectangular building nearest Fourth Street has ice cream and other food items, as well as art for sale. The second building, which features a second floor, has remained empty and unfinished since it was built.

In a phone message Tuesday, Richardson said he hasn't seen the new drawing and probably won't present the plan until 2012.

•The Planning Board received drawings Monday night from Buffalo architect David Thomas Kazmierczak indicating Niagara Family Medicine's intent to purchase and use 904 and 908 Center St. (across from Tops). The seven medical partners intend to build a new practice across the nearly 27,000-square-foot property, which presently includes two buildings and a breezeway.

The west building would be torn down and converted into a 10-spot parking lot. The remodeled breezeway would be used for check-in, a waiting room and triage. The east building would have five exam rooms and doctors offices. Employees would park on the east side of the building, in a second parking lot.

The project includes new siding, a new porch and potentially some additional green space and plantings.

The Planning Board received two proposals on Monday. Kazmierczak and Dr. Daniel Zorich were told to select one and present it to the Village Board on Nov. 21.

Niagara Family Medicine is moving from its current location behind HSBC Bank and Family Video in Center Street's Rite-Aid Plaza. Doctors expect to be working in the new building by March 1, 2012.
