Online home of Sentinel, Tribune and Dispatch offers new photo galleries, sliders and ad module

To celebrate, NFP is offering 50 percent off all Web ads

Working with 360 PSG, Western New York's premier website design firm, Niagara Frontier Publications recently unveiled version 2.0 of its website, www.wnypapers.com

"We've had tremendous success with our new website - readership is up more than 200 percent as we continue into our second year," said co-editor Joshua Maloni. "Still, we wanted to offer our audience even more ways to find stories and photos, connect with us on Facebook and Twitter, and use our ad zones to reach even more of the local and regional markets."

The redesigned website utilizes "sliders," or rotating main stories on the home page, the individual newspaper pages, and on most of the topical pages.

"With one click, our audience can quickly and efficiently see the day's top stories and its most noteworthy events," Maloni said. "The 'slider' rotates a number of features and photos, which cover local and regional news items."

New photo galleries allow NFP to more efficiently present pictorial collages from festivals, special occasions, sporting events and "the week that was."

"We've had great response to our 'lightbox' collages, which magnify and enhance photos for our readers," Maloni said. "Now, it's even easier to find those photos - and the new setup allows our staff to upload and display even more great pictures."

A new advertising zone appears at the top of each page.

"We are very pleased to be able to offer our advertisers the new 'Premium' banner ad that is double the height of our standard banner ad, and in a prime location on our site," said co-editor Jamie Bacon. "I feel that this was our missing link, and that we can now offer a complete, well-rounded Web advertising package."

Aesthetically, NFP's new website design offers a different color palette, bolder section headings and larger social media icons.

"In print and online, our goal is to remain your No. 1 source for local news," Maloni said. "We're fortunate to have 360 on board providing exceptional design ideas to pair with our award-winning journalism."

To celebrate the redesign, NFP is currently offering 50 percent off all Web ads through the end of the year.

"Being able to offer our Web ads at 50 percent off is a great way to reward our advertisers who have placed Web ads with us in the past," Bacon said. "At the same time, it opens the door for advertisers who, up to this point, may have been hesitant about adopting the Web as an advertising medium."
