The Niagara County Auxiliary Police is hosting two upcoming open houses to look for new recruits for the upcoming NCAP and New York State Peace officer academies. The events will be held from 6 to 9 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 26, and from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 29, at the Niagara County Emergency Management Facility, 5574 Niagara Street Extension, Lockport.

Individuals attending the open houses can speak with current officers and administration for additional information on how they may become members. The Niagara County Auxiliary Police serves the community and assists with local law enforcement, including but not limited to, the Niagara County Sheriff's Office, Lockport Police Department, Lewiston Police Department, and the Town of Niagara Police. NCAP officers assist at Niagara County community events by providing patrolmen for traffic control, bike patrol, crowd control and much more.

All members are sworn peace officers and, on average, receive 150 hours of training prior to certification.

Members must be residents of Niagara County and citizens of the U.S. over the age of 21. Men and women interested in applying to the unit can get information and a pre-application at www.niagaracountyauxiliarypolice.com or by calling 716-438-3171.
