The Town of Newfane Historical Society will hold its annual Apple Harvest Festival on Sunday, Oct. 2, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the museum site located on West Creek and Ide roads in Newfane.

The event is free of cost and offers activities to be enjoyed by all ages. The Barroom Buzzards will perform in the gazebo from 1 to 3 p.m., Radio station WLVL will broadcast live from noon to 3 p.m., and the Hot Country Liners dance team will perform at 1 p.m. in front of the museum.

In addition to live entertainment throughout the day, festivalgoers have numerous options for delicious local cuisine to enjoy. Art Gladows' famous chicken chowder (bring a container for take out), beef-on-weck, hot dogs, sausage with peppers and onions, baby-back ribs, salt potatoes, fried dough, cotton candy, popcorn, apple butter, coffee, pop, tea and more will be available at the event.

Displays and demonstrations will be set up at the museum, as well as a flea market and country store where goods and memorabilia can be purchased. The opportunity to attend a class in the one-room school, learn about the Mandhardt Power Building, watch the blacksmith ply his trade and visit the permanent Civil War encampment are all unique to the area and available to the visitors free of cost. New to this year's festival is the chance to see a working printing press in action.

The Van Horn Mansion, located on Lockport-Olcott Road in the hamlet of Burt, will be open for guided tours on the day of the Apple Harvest Festival, as well as every Sunday (excluding holidays) from 1 to 4 p.m. Walk-ins are welcome and donations are appreciated.

Newfane Historical Society organizers report they are still seeking artists and crafters interested in showing at the festival. There is no fee for crafters. Those interested can contact George Updegraph at 531-0200 for more information.

Free parking will be available at the festival. For more information on the Apple Harvest Festival, contact Updegraph at 531-0200, or Newfane Historical Society's financial secretary, Rosemary, at 433-3065.
