McLaughlin will manage residence life, campus activities for NU

Niagara University announces Carrie McLaughlin has been named the new dean of students following a nationwide search. McLaughlin comes to Niagara after five years as the director of student life at Loyola University Maryland in Baltimore. She will begin her new position on Monday, Sept. 12.

"Carrie has extensive student life experience, particularly in residence life and student conduct," said Dr. Kevin Hearn, vice president for student life at Niagara. "We look forward to Carrie's arrival and know she will be able to make an immediate impact on our growing programs and services at NU."

As the dean of students, McLaughlin will be responsible for the university's programs in residence life, campus activities and multicultural/international student affairs.

As the director of student life at Loyola, she served as the chief housing officer for the residential program, which serviced more than 3,000 students each year. McLaughlin also was responsible for the administration of the student code of conduct and worked closely with the dean of students on a number of areas, including at-risk students and conduct matters. Additionally, she worked with community leaders and organizations to ensure strong relationships for off-campus housing.

Prior to joining Loyola, McLaughlin worked at Syracuse University in a number of roles, including as an instructor, graduate assistant, teaching associate and assistant director of the teaching associate program. She also worked in residence life at Colgate University, and served as the interim director of the department.

McLaughlin earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Guelph in Ontario and an M.S. in educational leadership from Miami University of Ohio. She is currently working toward a doctorate in higher education at Syracuse University.
