Veterans will have child care available on site this fall at the VA Western New York Healthcare System, 3495 Bailey Ave., while they go to their medical appointments.

Secretary of Veterans Affairs Eric K. Shinseki announced recently that Buffalo was one of three pilot sites in the nation to get one of the child care centers.

Hours of operation will be from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. for ages 6 weeks to 12 years. All the pilot child care centers will be operated on site by licensed childcare providers. Child care will be offered free to veterans who are eligible for VA care and visiting a facility for an appointment.

Other child care pilot sites are Northport, N.Y., and Tacoma, Wash.
