Assemblyman John Ceretto, R-I-Lewiston, released the following statement Monday regarding the regional economic councils' first round of meetings. Western New York's council will host the first meeting on August 3 at the University at Buffalo.

"It is fitting that the first meeting of Governor Cuomo's regional economic councils is being held in Western New York. Niagara County has the resources and talent needed to create the sustainable economic growth and numerous good-paying jobs that this program is looking to support.

"Enhancing Niagara County's economic condition needs to be a priority if our region receives this important economic development funding.  The $1 billion in grants and new tax credits being offered through the councils would be an enormous boost for the region and would lead to the creation of needed jobs.

"By investing in Western New York, state government can go a long way in helping to create the kinds of long-term private and public-sector partnerships that have been so successful in creating jobs while helping to diversify and grow New York's struggling economy.

"From the energy produced at Niagara Falls to the talented professionals and students coming out of our local colleges and universities, I believe that Western New York has the natural resources and skilled workers necessary to spur economic growth and fuel the Empire State's recovery."
